The Westboro Baptist Church—a group that is so offensive that I won’t even link to their website—has spent part of this week protesting in Brooklyn. I’m all for freedom of speech and, the First Amendment is there to protect all speech, not just the thoughts and ideas you agree with. So, it was with great pride that I read this post from New York Time’s blog The Local. It seems that Westboro protesters—who will spend Saturday rabble rousing close to my apartment—couldn’t handle a few high school kids shouting back. What’s the matter? Afraid of a couple hundred Brooklyn Tech students? As for Saturday, we could make signs, bring cameras, and counter protest a group that “thanks God for IEDs.” I’m going to take the opposite tact. Maybe if we ignore them, they’ll realize no one cares about them and they’ll go back to Kansas. Probably not, though. [via The Local]
